July 14, 1789 - the storming of the political prison in Paris now referred to as the Bastille, sparking the French Revolution against the monarchy heralding a new age of freedom.

July 14, 2019 - the president of the country that was gifted the Statue of Liberty (made in and shipped from France) as a symbol of freedom from the tyranny of monarchy, racially attacks (via Twitter) four politically progressive Congress members. This president who would be king also heralded a Kristallnacht (‘Crystal night’ - referencing the broken glass of Jewish stores, synagogues etc. in Germany in 1938) neo-Nazi type crack down on undocumented immigrants in ten cities around the country on July 14 - a country originally inspired by France to declare independence from the British monarchy.

In 1886, (according to Wikipedia) a dedication for the statue was performed:

“Shortly after the dedication, The Cleveland Gazette, an African American newspaper, suggested that the statue's torch not be lit until the United States became a free nation "in reality":

"Liberty enlightening the world," indeed! The expression makes us sick. This government is a howling farce. It can not or rather does not protect its citizens within its own borders. Shove the Bartholdi statue, torch and all, into the ocean until the "liberty" of this country is such as to make it possible for an inoffensive and industrious colored man to earn a respectable living for himself and family, without being ku-kluxed, perhaps murdered, his daughter and wife outraged, and his property destroyed. The idea of the "liberty" of this country "enlightening the world," or even Patagonia, is ridiculous in the extreme.”

Trump’s dog-whistle to the part of his base who are white supremacist / white nationalist there is no distinction) was a response to criticism from a group of freshman members of Congress earlier in the week who had visited migrant detention centers at the southern border. Testifying under oath they subsequently suggested that conditions were inhumane, with people being forced to drink out of toilets, having to sleep on concrete floors, not being able to brush their teeth or shower, being fed un-nourishing food not to mention children being separated from their parents and at least seven children having died in U.S. custody etc. This was all consistent with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s social media commentary that the detention centers are literally like Nazi concentration camps: people who are legally seeking asylum being treated in sub-human ways.

AOC and ‘the squad’ had publicly criticized Democratic Party house speaker Nancy Pelosi for having supported Mitch McConnell’s Senate version of a bill to provide more funding to be used at the southern border. The criticism was because the Senate bill provided no oversight into how money was to be spent - it was in effect a blank check for Trump to potentially continue his cruelty of migrants seeking asylum.

The political sub-text was that corporate politicians Pelosi and Trump were in agreement regarding their view of the humanitarian crisis at the southern border: they don’t care about those people. All that matters for Pelosi and Trump is that corporate interests prevail.

As against this position, the progressive (anti-corporate) wing of the Democratic Party inspired by Bernie Sanders want to fight against such treatment of human beings as a means to a political end.

The squad has not only been criticized by Pelosi but reprimanded in the corporate news outlets for standing up for human rights. They are portrayed as hurting the chances of the corporate Democratic Party (and their favored candidate) beating Trump and the corporate Republican Party in 2020.

As we know, the new Hillary Clinton is Joe Biden - he’s being treated as the Democratic Party presumptive nominee - the person everyone else has an uphill battle against (despite being an absolute train wreck of a candidate). Why?

Here’s a wild guess: because Trump, McConnell, Pelosi, Schumer etc. all have the same boss - the corporate oligarchy that currently rules America.

For example, in response to Trump’s racist criticism of the squad (AOC etc.) on July 14, media pundit Bakari Sellars responds:

“I know some of y’all are appalled but literally every Black or Brown person in public life has been told “go back to Africa” at one point or another.

Racism ain’t new, it just doesn’t wear a hood anymore”

(Former Hillary supporter) Sellars knows that no-one thinks that racism is new. He is disingenuously trying to obfuscate - to distract attention away from the fact that PROGRESSIVES had been racially attacked by the president. Not wanting to defend them (since doing so would be to implicitly defend their mentor Bernie Sanders) he reveals his corporate loyalty and his utter moral hypocrisy. He is not concerned about unfair treatment of human beings, just his salary.

#bakarisellout #bakarisalary etc.

This is just one example typical of the corporate media treatment of progressives. There are more almost everyday (some of which are reported on this site).

Let’s hope that July 14 2019 marks a turning point in the revolution going on in the USA led by Senator Sanders, against the tyranny of the current president (who thinks he is a king). Remember Bastille Day, July 14 1789!
